Have had a few nightmares here and there but the last few nights it's constant. Three in a row last night and one so far tonight; I'm exhausted and don't want to go back to sleep. Am going to see a counsellor for general Issues on Monday, I'll talk to her about it then. Does anyone have any ways to cope? I usually put a light on and watch a lighthearted tv show for half an hour before tryin to go back to sleep.

I have had nightmares most my.life and they would reoccur over and over if i went back to sleep. They have been better the last few years though. I never really had any ways to cope. Id just wake up yelling or screaming.and start crying ! Having someone beside you to cuddle is nice after u have one

Make sure you're not too hot, I have terrible nightmares when I'm overdressed or have too many blankets on the bed.
I hope this resolves for you soon!

I read with a dim light to distract myself and get sleepy again. I do this to fall asleep as well and always try to make it a book that won't give me too much food for thought or make me worry (ie light-hearted). I stay off my phone (bubhub, Facebook, or twitter) as I find the light stimulates me more but also there's often something that will upset me or get my mind going too much. I actually put my phone on airplane mode every night so no notifications come through that I may see if I wake up and look at the time.
I have a kindle paperwhite that is backlit but you can dim it really low and it works a treat to help me get sleepy again.
I'm the type of person who will dream about whatever was last on my mind so I just really try to steer away from any type of negative story, comment, etc before sleep. I often have horrible nightmares where I wake up scared to fall back asleep or move and these tricks help a majority of the time.
Playing Sodoku on my phone works as well, but again put your phone to 'do not disturb' mode so the backlight isn't too bright and stimulating. For me it's all about distracting my mind in a mundane way.

Have been ok the last few nights keeping cool is definitely important, and not watching anything over stimulating a few hours before sleep.
