I have managed to convince DP to get me a new digital camera for Christmas. She will be going to the good guys to buy it, she hasn't told me how much she intends to spend (I offered to do the research for her seeing Sunday is her only day off between now and Christmas Day) so the point of my post -
What cameras do the photography buffs here recommend? Something easy to use will be good. I'll be using it mainly for pics around the home/trips when we see the family ect. My last digital was complicated to use and it wasn't very often I'd get a good shot, had lost of issues with the flash and getting close up pics. It'd be nice to have something aside from that or my iPhone to get some nice pics with.

Are you wanting a DSLR or just a point and shoot camera?

What's the difference? Point and shoot most likely, something I don't have to fiddle with settings on just to take a pic.

I love our Panasonic lumix tz30. It is a great point and shoot. There is probably a newer version.

I have a 650d canon DSLR which I LOVE. Haven't had a point and shoot for a long time but have heard great things about the lumix
