I have complained about my mother in law plenty of times on here, but I just had to get this one out.
I was having a conversation with my BFF and my sister today. My BFF has been doing some illustrations for a book that my MIL wrote and it is draining the life out of my friend because mil keeps knocking them back, and hasn't paid for anything that she has accepted yet so were talking about an exit strategy for her and then we said that MIL is a bit odd.My sister said that at my DD's birthday party last month, MIL asked her if my 11 yo neice had her period yet. I was just shocked at how intrusive and out of line this question was and my sister said "oh that wasn't the worst thing she said that day" and then she went on to tell me that MIL had comment along the lines of "I know i'm no oil painting but SPG has legs like tree trunks". I know it is nothing major but it just feels like such a slap in the face that I take her places, do shopping for her, clean stuff, etc to have her sit there at a function that I arranged and invited her to, to have her sitting there critizing my body..... (plus it struck a chord because I know I have horrid legs and I hate the way they look) Also, pot...kettle, black, actually the pot is a much blacker black than the kettle.

My mil has asked some very intrusive things... never asked me directly but it boils my blood when dp tells me about it later. Such as about 3 mths into the relationship have we been intimate. Um none of your business. Also asking my clothing and BRA size... more personal things than my own mother knows. I guess I feel your pain

Wow what horrible things to say.
My mil isn't backward with coming forward. I remember when 8 weeks pregnant with no. 1, I had terrible bloating and was already overweight pre-peegnancy and she commented " you know you don't have to be eating for 2 right". So insulting and ftr I only gain 6kgs all up anyway but way to make a first time mum feel special.

3 months after DS1 was born mil asked if I had my period back yet. I was so shocked that anyone would ask that I actually answered her. She is a mw so feels she can ask all sorts of inappropriate things. Not sure what fil's excuse is for constantly asking if my titties are sore - and yes, that is the word he uses.

Awful things to say! Sorry she is such a difficult person.
I find with with people like this the only thing which works for me is to write them off as completely off their heads and that way I depersonalise it, if she wasn't saying it about you, it would be somebody else.
Some people have a weird compulsion to be offensive, it's a sickness.

How old is this woman?
I know sometimes those who are a bit more senior in age can come out with some absolute clangers! It's by no means an excuse for being the way she is, I've just seen it all before with older women.
Then again, some people are just jerks.
Big hugs to you, she sounds painful and hard to be around

SPG, it is pretty inappropriate of your MIL to speak like that. I would be really upset. Don't let it get you down though, you are not the only one with a MIL like that. I could write a book.

Oh that's really inappropriate of her to have said anything about you at all. Why do they say these things???
MIL's are strange, mine sends my husband and me emails with links to natural remedies for all ailments, none of which we have.... this week she has sent me links to natural weight loss tablets (yes we're a little overweight), and why we should eat certain vegetables so we don't get cancer!!!!!
