    Default Formula/constipation.. please help!!!

I have a 15 week old who has been formula fed from the get go. He was on sma but he was far too constipated. He has since been on NAN comfort and all has been well.....until the last two weeks.

He is pooing every 2-3 days, the longest he went was 4 days. We have tried hot compresses on his belly, warm baths, bicycle legs, cooled boiled water, coloxyl and even prune juice. None of which made a difference at all. I keep getting told that every 2nd day is ok but he is so uncomfortable its awful..Today he has just screamed He's doing lots of crunches, kicking his legs and straining.

TMI......when he does poo its a bit like thick/sticky sludge and not as big as I would like. It's usually dark green which I assume is because of the iron content?

I hate seeing him in so much pain and I honestly cant cope with all the crying either

So gp visit? Would you change formula?

    Thanks

Hmmm I would call the 1300 Health line.

I Ff'd from the beginning too and had some minor constipation, but nothing as long as 4 days.

I used Heinz Nurture (not the gold, just the standard) and has no serious issues.

Thank you, I didn't even think of calling the health line will do that tonight when dh getss home from work- No credit on my phone.

I was thinking of putting him on Heinz nurture because it just seems to be an ongoing issue with this NAN comfort.

    Thanks again

    Welcome.

If the 1300 people aren't much help, I would take your little one to the GP tomorrow. Poor little guy must be so uncomfortable

a little brown sugar in water in a bottle should help, that was what I was told to do for my son many years ago when NAN constipated him...

The healthline lady told me 1tsp brown sugar dissolved in 30mls of water. She said it gives a kick start to the bowels. My GP at the time also said babies can go 7 days without doing a poo and it's fine. I know how I feel after a couple let alone 7 so I could never let it go that long!

We had constipation probs with DD from around 5 days old- we swapped from SMA formula to Heinz Nurture (not the Gold- the high iron levels in the Gold can constipate) and used Coloxyl drops.

Nan has one of the lowest iron contents in all the formulas that I have found. I add an extra 10ml to all bottles & that seems to do the trick

    DH 37 + me 33 = DS1 March 2010 & DS2 July 2013

I use heinz nurture original and have had no issues and ds loves it. I highly recommend it. We tried 3 diff formulas before finding heinz.
