Default Freaking out and need to vent

Warning this is a vent thread

DH did a quick trip to the shops last night and on the way home was pulled over for a rbt where he realised his license had expired 6 weeks ago. The police issued him with a notice to appear in court next month and had him go to the police station today to get finger printed and photo taken with a name sign when he asked why he had to get all this done he was told driving with a expired license can carry a 1 year prison sentence depending on the judge. We have tried to speak to a solicitor and have been told the only way they can help is to get the duty lawyer on the day get a adjournment and get the paperwork sent to them from courthouse. No one can tell us what is more likely to happen will he just get a fine or is prison a real possibility because it seems a but harsh for a expired license.

What! DP has been done for driving without a valid licence and he never had to get finger printed. He was riding a motorbike out of class though. I thought it was just a fine and a few points unless there were many previous offences.

A bit extreme to threaten jail

Oh and he did get a court date but was able to sign a form and plead guilty that way instead of actually going into court.

No way someone would go to jail just for an expired license. I wouldn't be worried.

I could understand if he had been drinking or speeding or something but it was just a expired license and not even that expired only 6 weeks

I wouldn't be worried, my friend got caught drink driving and speeding with no license!. She got her licence suspended for 6 months (weird as she had only ever held Ls and they had expired) and a small fine.

He'll just get a fine for the expired licence.

As an aside, I've never been asked for my licence at an RBT!

Agreed - just a fine and asked to present a renewed license.
