I'd live wherever my family was, their support is hugely important since going back to work.

I thought you were talking about a country town, but if it's Brisbane then I'd live in Brisbane if I were you.

Brissy does feel like a country town to me! We'd be looking to move to Sandgate/Shorncliffe area. Anyone know what it's like to live there?

Oh it's Brisbane? Um yes, option 2.

I was imagining a small country town. If you think Brisbane is that, then you clearly haven't lived in a country town!

You can PM me Naboo, I can answer questions about those areas.

To answer the OP...I would rent my house out in Sydney and rent in Brisbane to test the waters. We sold our house and moved to a new area, hated it, moved back. Now stuck with a property we can't sell in the other area while the market has moved on in the area we moved back to. Biggest regret of my life.

Could u go to Brissy for an extended holiday first? Just tell your family it's a holiday but have a little chance to really feel it out?

I would move to brissy, my financial well being and planning for our families future are way more important than leaving friends/social life for me. I live in Melbourne, have my whole life and all of my family and friends are here, we are moving to Adelaide in February as DH has been given an opportunity that will likely set us up financially, I am pregnant with my first and scared of doing it without support but we are doing this for our future and the future of our little peanut. Ultimately they are my priorities you need to do what suits yours, I wish you the best of luck

I'm not sure how cheap you think Brisbane is, it really isn't much cheaper than Sydney (I have lived both), and Sandgate is very expensive for what you get with a long commute to the city.

Yeah I think you are making far to many assumptions about Brisbane and need to do your research a bit more. Your decision may not be as black and white as what you think.
