A friend of mine mentioned you have to work a certain amount of hours once your kids are kindy/school aged to continue to get the FTB.
Is this right??

No. At least I don't think so as I've never heard that before.
FTB is until the child is older (16? maybe).
The only way I can think of losing FTB would be to earn over the threshold.
