    Default Referrals, hospital booking

Hey everyone just wondering about what stage I should be given a referral to book in to a hospital. I have so far had all my care through my GP and just starting to freak out that I should have been referred to the hospital already or had a referral for obstetrician.

When do I need to decide things like going pubic or private and the type of care I want?

    I am 10 weeks today.

We decided early on we wanted to go private and let the GP know, so he gave us a referral around the 6 week mark. I think most OB's aim to see you around 12 weeks, to discuss the results of those important 12 week scans so might be worth asking your GP about it soon.

We will be meeting with the midwife at our next OB appointment to discuss hospital paperwork, we will be 13/14 weeks then.

My gp referred me to the public hospital at 9 weeks. I just got a letter from them saying that my first appointment is when I'm 14 weeks. Best to decide now wether you want to go public or private sooner rather than later especially if you want to go private as I have heard lots of ob's book out fairly fast. You could also look at doing shared care between gp and hospital. I personally wouldn't but that's just because the gps around here aren't really that great at dealing with pregnant women, I find them quite slack. But if you have a gp you love and trust then shared care could be a good option

We made a decision around 7 weeks as we were advised to by our fertility specialist, as if you choose to go private a lot of OBs are very popular and book out quite early.
    Good luck with your decision!
