We use a thunder shirt. You have to put it on before the storm starts though so that anxiety hasn't taken hold. So in your dogs case even earlier. We let our dog inside on those days too though to comfort him.

What about trying to sound proof the dog kennel? Blankets over the top etc. Would that help at all?

I spoke with the vet and you can get like antianxiety meds for dogs that are given every day over the wet season. I'm going to see them on the weekend. Another storm on and dog's not happy!

Your poor puppy..... We have a little dog and is he is exactly the same. I can vouch for the thunder jackets they are a great idea and have truely cut the cost of meds down.
Our dog will sometimes wear the jacket for days on end if it's going to be stormy. He takes Valium as well sometimes if it's really bad but our vet said unfortunately it's something that can also get worse with age.

Yeah, he's definitely getting worse each year although it was after he ripped out his nails he got really bad. My biggest concern is if we are not home so can't tie him up. That was awful. DH came home to a bloodbath and it cost over $2000 at the vets. I'll look into the jacket as well. He'll have to wear it days on end to I think.

You can get them on the RSPCA website.
I feel your frustration we've come home a number of times to our little dog bleeding from hurting himself somehow after getting so distressed, I feel from them it must be so scary
