    Default Constipated newborn

My 8 day old DD has been cranky all day, unsettled, not feeding properly.
She is fed with EBM and comped with NAN gold ( that's what she had without issues in hospital).
Just now I changed two nappies in a row, the first one was well formed, second runny so I'm guessing the cause of the unsettled behaviour was that she was constipated. Yesterday she was pooing fine.
Is it a formula thing? Something I've eaten? Or does it just happen?
Anything I can do for her to stop it happening again?

Could be none if the above.. At 8 days old they are still trying to adjust to day and night.

I agree with LiL M. I hope it's just how she felt on that day & the both of you have a better more relaxed day tomorrow Try the EBM & formula for another week & if the crankiness continues maybe switch formula? Is she arching her back when she's cranky? She could have wind trapped still? I found a bath would help with my son when he was a newborn, it helps gets everything moving and hopefully moves with wind out. Best of luck, take it a day at a time

Sometimes they just decide to hate the world! I always try to find a 'reason' for why DD is cranky and sometimes there is one but I think sometimes they are just like us and have good and bad days. Could have been that she was constipated but I wouldn't go changing formula or anything unless you notice a pattern where this repeats a few times. And yeah, no advice to stop it happening again, just remember that tomorrow is a new day
PP have good advice, could be wind or anything, or maybe your little newborn is just starting to wake up! Good luck and hope tonight is better for you.

Thanks ladies, she (and I) are much relieved after a couple of pooey nappies!
    I'll keep on keeping on.
She did arch her back, I gave her a couple of drops of gripe water to see if that helped in the afternoon, poor thing.
I suppose she is only fresh, she probably doesn't if she is Arthur or Martha!
    Hate seeing her so upset!
