How about something for the mum instead of the baby?
If I'm going to a baby shower of a close friend, I make up a "mumma's pamper pack" with stuff to take to the hospital (nice body wash, moisturizer, new toothbrush & toothpaste, chocs, champagne etc), I then buy the baby a pressie once born.
