Default Starting the pill after birth

So yesterday I saw the GP and got a prescription for the pill but forgot to ask him when to start it. It's 6 weeks since I gave birth and I'm not BF. I still haven't got my period yet though. Do I wait for my period to come or just start taking it. We have had s*x a few times however, without any protection....oops.
    Any help is appreciated.
