I like it - I compare it to Xmas - in theory asking neighbours for lollies is just as weird as allowing young kids to sit on an old mans lap asking for toys! yes it's commercialised but the kids love it and its a great excuse for a party !

I agree that it is a very American thing and I hate how this country copies the US in so many ways. But I don't care all that much about Halloween, the kids enjoy it and we always went trick or treating when we were kids.
One time a bunch of kids knocked on our door when I was younger and said the standard "trick or treat" line and my mum replied "trick" and laughed (we had run out of lollies)! The children just stood there going "whaaa"?.. Lol.. Must try that

I never celebrated it but now I have DD and we live in such a family friendly street we do it each year.
But kids are told if the letterbox is not decorated Dont go to that house. We also do ours on the wknd in the afternoon for the little ones.
