Ours blew up a few weeks ago. We had a top loader, 5.5kg.
We ended up purchasing a Euromaid 7kg, front loader, and I love it!
It has a few quick cycles, heats it's own water. Only annoying thing so far is it doesn't beep at the end of a cycle.. I thought all machines did this?!

We have a Beko 7.5kg front loader which has two very quick cycles (14min and 28min), as well as heaps of other cycles. The longest cycle, surprisingly enough, is the eco cotton which saves more water but runs for 3 1/2 hours!!
I have a small house with tiled floors and a European laundry (in the hallway), so when the Beko fills with water, it is VERY noisy. Other than the noise, I'm very happy with it. We paid about $600 6months ago.

I bought a $599 7.5kg Top Loader Simpson in October, as my previous KMART washing machine 5 years old died on me. This new machine is great. It beeps at every finished cycle and it fits so much more in than my last washing machine.

Love love love my 7kg Direct Drive LG front loader. It has a cotton quick (just over an hour), a 30 minute and a 20 minute rinse and spin.

Love my Electrolux front loader. It has the ability to make almost every load faster (when I forget to put a full load on early in the day I can put clothes for the next day for 3 kids and dh and it takes 30mins.

We have an Electrolux front loader too & I love it as almost all cycles are adjustable.
My best advice is to get one that has a timer (if this isn't standard these days?) load your washing the night before, set to start before you get up & your first load is done - too easy! I use my timer constantly so that I can avoid waiting around for a load to wash.
