If the kids are eating nicely and just enjoying their meal I'm not fussed how long it takes. If they start to stuff around I warn them that the timer will go on and no other food given until the following morning. If I need to put the timer on they get 10 minutes and then their plates are cleared. I don't get into arguments with them, they know what will happen if they mess around and I figure if they are genuinely hungry they would just eat.
