The playgroup I go to each parent brings a piece of fruit for the kids. It's at a mchn centre. There is a mum who manages activities etc but there isnt a strict structure to it. $20 seems like a lot!

Ours is parent run at the local community gardens and is a gold coin donation + a piece of fruit to share for morning tea.

Donations go towards buying art + craft supplies, activities, seedlings for planting in the garden etc and everyone gets to take stuff home at harvest.

We pay playgroup NSW membership and then $3 per week per family - usually about $30 a term. That is in a proper playgroup room with it's own toys and playground too. I previously went to one that was $5 a head each time you went.

We don't go anymore, but we're paying $80 / term , plus a one off playgroup membership fee, and insurance.

The one I go to is $2 per child per visit or $30 per school term per family. Oh, and a piece of fruit per child to share for morning tea. I find paying weekly works best for us as the kids often miss a couple of weeks each term with sickness or clashing appointments.

Another group I chose not to go to was $50 per term and $50 per year for insurance.
