    Default Do babies understand Christmas?

Reason I ask is because this year will be our first with DD who will be 5 months old on Christmas day and Im wondering do babies at that age understand getting a present/gift?
Trying to think of a good gift for her at that age and if she will understand its a gift?
    Any ideas?

No, she won't understand she will be getting a gift however she will probably be thrilled if the paper is shiny and is crinkly.

My DS was 7 months last Christmas and although he didn't understand we still made a big deal of it because Christmas is the best!!! Yes, it was more for us but he loved the shiny and noisy paper and we loved sharing it with our child. Can't wait for Christmas this year

Nope they don't understand. Some people go overboard with gifts for babies but it's not necessary.

It'll be like any other day for your dd, apart from the awesome shiny paper she can crinkle and eat!

The only reason I ever got my babies a Christmas present was so the older ones wouldn't think Santa was mean.
    Otherwise I wouldn't bother.
Unless your child is destined for Mensa there's no way they would understand such a concept at 5mths.

When my DD was 6 months at her first Xmas she understood it about as much as my cat did...and they both liked the wrapping paper lol

My ds was 5 m for his first Xmas. He kept trying to eat the paper
It's still nice to give them a small gift for memories.
