Put yourself in the shoes of a people smuggler. If Australia made a rule that "we won't send boats back with children on them", then what would you do? You would make sure there were children on every single boat. If there are children on every single boat, then every time one sinks, then children will die.
Please don't be naive to think that compromise won't be taken advantage of.

Many that the locals refused to do. They scrubbed toilets and slaughter floors, they were garbage collectors, they paid taxes and supported their families. They fitted in so well into the community and were so grateful bc scrubbing toilets was so much more preferable to where they come from. I was reading the local paper online and there was a story about how the children of those refugees are in uni to become doctors and engineers. Some had already graduated.

I believe it's a simplistic and narrow minded view to not recognise these 'boat' people can contribute to and enrich our country. So what's the fear?
So how many do you think we can take per year delirium? Put a number on it, because it is not that simple just to say that 'we can take more'.

Naive? I'm afraid there already are "rules" it's called the 1951 Convention relating to the status of Refugees, of which Australia is party too. We also may be breaching international law by pushing boats back seeking asylum without assessing the individual needs of those aboard, for example children, nursing babies, pregnant women, sick children.

Very true, I'm just about to make one not worth the wasted thoughts.

Why does it not surprise me that you seem excited by this. These are human beings. Children.

I am the only one on here that is acknowledging the regular deaths that occurred under the previous government. Over 1000 of them!
They were human beings. Children. Lured to their deaths by people smugglers.

If you think that you are more compassionate by turning a blind eye to children drowning then all the power to you.
