Default No science minister for the first time since 1931

    http://www.news.com.au/technology/sc...-1226720375674

Anyone able to defend or explain this?

....or is this a cost-saving measure?

A PM who places no value on science.

Jesus, fecking scary. Soon he'll be denying the theory of evolution. Or he is thinking we must get rid of science and shut those environmental hippies up about climate change.

Either way - seems likely he is trying to "dumb" us all down. Disgusting.

    How embarrassing.

Apparently in 2008 TA said 'evolution was a more plausible explanation for the origin of humans than Genesis'. Whilst a little part of me thinks "phew!" most of me thinks "oh dear, he thinks evolution is the explanation of the origins of humans, it's not, it's the explanation for the diversity of life on Earth".

As DF said, he's getting rid of the science minister so that no one in his party can challenge his anti-climate change/carbon price etc stance.

Very sad. There has been a huge amount of discoveries and breakthrough research that's come out of this country in the last decade and it's a pity TA doesn't recognise this.

But hey, I'm getting to the point where nothing he could say or do would surprise me anymore. (Or am I speaking too soon..?)

    The article said it.

"Science, as in the CSIRO, will be with industry," Mr Abbott said during the press conference, which means the minister overseeing the sciences will be Ian McFarlane.
Abbott is ******lining the portfolios. That is all. It does not mean that science won't receive any money.... although I sincerely hope that any 'climate changy' type of pseudo science doesn't receive any more money.

Rest assured, the CSIRO won't vanish overnight because there is not a politician in Canberra without the word 'Science' in the title.

bahaha, Pseudo science. There goes father cherry picking the parts of science he "believes" in. So cute, almost like a 5 year old talking about santa.
