    Default School start age question.

Hi, just wondering if someone could please shed some light on this. My sister who lives in Qld told me that she recently confirmed a place for her daughter starting prep in 2015. Her daughter is a December 2008 bub. My lo is also starting the same year and is an October 2009 bubba.

I always thought I was sending my little one at the latest possible time (she has friends at preschool who turned 4 earlier this year that are heading off to Kindy next yr).

Has my sister been given the right info re start time? Or should she be looking at 2014?

    Thanks in advance! 😀

she should be starting in 2014...as she will be 5 before the 1st Jan.

Unless there is a known issue now, i would be starting her when she is 5 not when she is 6.

The National Curric will be almost fully rolled out by then and kids are supposed to start Foundation when they are 5.

I think she should be looking at next year he will be 6 before he starts school then and it's compulsory for kids to be in full time school before 6.

My dd is a June 2010 bub. She's going to kinder next year and then prep in 2015. At age 4 and a half. We're in qld too.

Is she delaying for some reason?

I agree she should be looking to start next year. My DS is an August 2007 baby and he started school this year.

Yes, she will need to start prep next year. School cut off is 30 June in qld. I have a late 2009 bub who will start prep in 2015.

DD2 is August 2008 and starting prep next year. Your sisters child is in the same age bracket and should start prep next year.

If her child's birthday isn't until late December she can start 2015, does she go to preschool?

I am not sure that is true in qld, as a Dec birthday would be considered mid-year (1 July-30 June is the intake per year)
