    Default First speech therapy appointment

Ds2 has his first appointment on Friday. It's at our local public hospital. What normally happens at the first appointment?

At DDs first appt they took a detailed history (development, speech language issues, medical issues, etc) and then they watched and listened to her while we all played. It was pretty informal and very play based.

    Good luck with it!

Ours was through a private speech path, but I imagine it would be similar

We went to a private speech path. DD just played the whole time, the speech path listened to her and wrote notes. She was lovely and made it all fun and made DD feel very comfortable.
I was asked a detailed history of DD including family histroy of any speech issues. DD's over all health - any ear infections. How many words she says, she went through a list of words and i had to say yes or no if she says them or not.
It was an hour long appt, the rest of our appts are 30mins.
    DD enjoys going.

So we've had the first appt. It went pretty well. The therapist was lovely

She sat with ds2 and they went through a picture booklet and she made notes. He's booked in to start 30 min appointments early next month.

    Thanks for the replies ladies
