Default Surprise Gender Scan possibly ruined

We had our 20 week ultrasound yesterday and everything looks lovely & healthy! We told the lady we wanted this bubs to be a surprise, but when she measured the baby's legs, well hubby & I both started laughing cos we're both certain we saw big boy bits!
We didn't want to confirm it though cos we do still want the surprise. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a chance of mistaking boy bits to girl bits?

Girls can also have a swollen vulva which can be mistaken for boy bits.

Yes, I saw *something* in one of my ultrasounds, I didn't know much about how to examine ultrasounds but my first thought was 'boy bits'! Then I got home and googled and found that it actually sounded a bit more like 'girl bits', though I was still finding some similar pics that were boys. So then I wasn't sure, and gave up on guessing.
My surprise baby was a girl.

With ours there was definitely no mistaking, I saw it before she pointed it out & it was definitely 'it' lol

My friend saw a doodle on her scan and she had a girl. She was very surprised. She'd had two boys previously and thought she knew what she saw.

I don't think your surprise is ruined, you still only think you know what you saw. Even experienced eyes get it wrong so it must be harder than we think. As an earlier poster said, girl bits get very swollen and can in fact look how you would expect boy bits to look. Does that make sense?

Our OB said the most definite way to know you're having a girl is the three black lines that show up on an ultrasound.

DH and I were having a scan, we both thought we saw boy bits and the Ob pulled the thing away and said "oh - you didn't want to know the sex, did you?". So we were having a boy. We now have the most beautiful daughter!

I love this, I could just imagine how sure you were of boy and then delivering a girl must have spun you out

We knew we were having a girl, but when she was born she was so swollen my first thought was that she was a boy! It went down pretty fast though.
