Thank goodness we live here. The hair, the polyblend. We'd be in a world of hurt.

I actually think laws based on religious beliefs are downright frightening. I couldn't think of anything worse than living in a country that still lives in the stone age and treats people according to their religious beliefs.

If you are genuinely interested in the bible view send me a pm and I'll respond when I'm home. There is a huge different e between religion and the bible.

Many comments above are spoken in ignorance. I really don't want to go there. My point has been proved. There is much greater intolerance of my view and it seems to me I am largely not respected because of my view and yet I only present it as a view.

I have not said anyone should change. I have not said anyone is wrong. I have not attacked anyone. I have not said I would vote against.

I have said I am not in favour of same sex marriage.

ETA: I can assure you, Dave, my views are not from ignorance. I was taught the Bible and the Christian ways from a very young age, as was my DF. My Mother was a Sunday school teacher and made damn sure I would have a proper "education". I was also kicked out of Sunday school for asking too many uncomfortable and shockingly logical questions.

If it's absolutely any consolation, however, my mother gave up on educating me when I displayed an uncomfortable habit of forming my own beliefs and opinions based on what is morally right and wrong, most of which kind of go against what men taught in the Bible. It did mean that I ended up ditching the Bible practice, though not my belief in the existence of God, just my following of him. My mother gave up on trying to save my immortal soul when I informed her quite calmly that if I had to be party to taking away basic human rights and freedom of others then I don't particularly want it saved.

    Apparently I'm a devil child.

DH and I were married in a Christian church in San Francisco that performs same-sex and inter-faith marriages. Religion/Christianity and same-sex marriage can mix. The people that run that church are amazing people that love their faith and are fantastic examples of acceptance.

Separation of church and state is so important!

Religious beliefs should never be what decides policies that effect everyone's lives.

Dave didn't you know you're not allowed to have an opinion different to the majority of Hubbers?
Lets hope you have a thick skin!

I don't really agree with your opinion but I think it's great you have shared your opinion and I respect that. I'm not going to keep asking you to justify yourself just because I don't agree.

How many Hubbers put up their Christmas tree? The majority!! So it's fine for you to pick and choose your Christian traditions, but for Dave to express his traditions - noooo you can't do that Dave.

    Good luck Dave.

You know the 'tree' thing doesn't originate from Christianity, right?

Dave, I have no problem with you not wanting to marry a man. That's entirely up to you. But saying others shouldn't be allowed to marry because of their gender goes beyond just an opinion because it hurts others. If you're uncomfortable with it, that's fine, don't do it. But don't be part of stopping others from doing it. Marriage is not like violence, or aggressive dogs, or any kind of dangerous behaviour. It harms none.

I'm not trying to attack you, just hoping you might think a bit more about the issue, and why people get upset that gender is used as a reason to deny people legal rights.

    Neither did Christmas. Lol.

In fact, if Jesus was a real person I think his birthday was meant to be sometime in September. The Church helped itself to a few Roman traditions to make Christianity/Catholicism a more acceptable and palatable tradition for the common people.

And even then, December 25th being celebrated is older than even Roman tradition, though I can't specifically remember where. I have the information somewhere..
