Default Could my toddler be allergic to our dog?

    Hi all,

Hoping for some advice regarding pet allergies.

We have a 3yo Pomeranian who has been an outside dog for the majority of his life. We would much prefer him to be inside and waited until DD2 (now 17 months) was steady on her feet until we decided it was time to bring him in for good.

He's been inside with us for two days now and DD2 is just on the tail-end of a head cold but for the past 2 nights she's had an awful dry night time cough. Last night she had 2 x 1 hour episodes of coughing.

    Very tired this morning!

I'm wondering if its the dog or her cold? Would she have any other symptoms if it was allergy related? To be honest this is the first time DD2 and the dog have been allowed within close contact for extended periods of time, I was always worried he'd bowl her over and frighten her and I was equally concerned about DD2 being too rough with him and pulling his fur/tail/whiskers etc...so the past 2 days they have been all over each other.

Should I keep the dog out until she's fully recovered and try again?

If she is allergic is there anything I can do to be able to have the dog inside still?

I have allergies to some animals and I know other people who do too, we all have the same symptoms of sneezing, itchy, watery eyes and running, itchy nose

I would say that the coughing is not an allergy.

Thanks BobbieLouise, I'm really hoping it isn't an allergy. Our poor dog was so happy to be allowed back in. Both he and the kids would be heartbroken if he has to go back out

I think it sounds more like a cold than allergy as well.
I'm allergic to rabbits and get the same symptoms as pp mentioned along with swelling in my face.
