Default Are dyson vaccums as good as everyone says?

Just wondering - I have a Miele Cat & Dog vaccum and thought it was the duck's guts. I have a small handheld Dyson for quick clean-ups as well.

Last night I was trying to drain the Dysons battery so did my bedroom carpet (which is always vaccumed by the Miele) I couldn't believe the amount of crap it sucked up!!!!

Is it just that I can see the sucked up stuff in the clear plastic canister that stores the dust?

Are the Dysons as good as everyone says? Should I stick with my beloved Miele?

I was thinking these exact words just last week... We have the same as you have now but I'm just not loving it...

    Interested to see people's opinions!

I had a really expensive old Meile which I loved until after 15 years it finally died. Dh got me a Dyson and yes I believe it is the best vacuum I have ever used. It's 3 years old now so I'm yet to see if it will last as long as my old faithful Meile though.

We have a dyson and I think it's fantastic, I get amazed at how much comes out of our carpet once or twice a week! I would have thought a meile was just as good.

I'm not sure how old our's is, maybe 8-10 yrs? DH's parents gave it to us when they bought a house with a central vacuum system. The motor blew last year but we just bought a new motor for about 100 bucks and it's back to being good as new. I think it's our fault it blew--I got a bit lazy emptying the bin and think it overheated!

We decided on a Rowenta 24v because you don't have to keep your finger on the 'on' button like you do with the some Dysons. I wanted cordless though
