I have never used it and I'm not a fan of its use. I often stop reading something if there are lots of lol's in it. I find it really distracting tbh. I also get annoyed when people say something not vaguely amusing (eg i'm making a cup of tea) then add "lol". Or say something cruel and think it's ok to add lol at the end.
There you go I've gone from never ever using it to 3 times in one post lol.

Lol annoys me. When people use it I just want to tell them to grow the **** up. Especially older people using it, reminds me of the old mutton dressed up as lamb saying...
(I'm an old fart by BH standards though).

I type "lol" a lot. Mostly to show, "Hey, I'm being lighthearted, not serious!" or because it's the way to reply to someone without actually having to say anything of substance. It's especially useful since people now know when I've read what they've written to me on FB, but I don't really want to reply or keep the conversation going.
Dropping a "lol," and leaving it there... best way to kill a conversation.
I really really hate people saying out loud though. Even worse when they say, "Lolz." *vomit*

yeah I tend to be guilty of overusing lol or haha. Im not sure entirely why - I think some of it is to help convey tone as in make it clear im joking or being light hearted about something.
However I overuse ummm in real life so it could just be my online version of umm
