Sake restaurant at Southgate is superb. I can't wait until we can afford to go again.

Restaurants:
Melba brasserie at the Langham hotel has the most beautiful buffet, expensive but it's worth it and the view of the Yarra at night is lovely.
The Merrywell upstairs is a fun place serving upmarket American food. On a fri/sat night sit outside on the heated deck and u can see the crown light and fire show on the hour.
Pancake parlor has delicious pancakes, there are locations at the Burke st mall and at Melbourne central shopping centre.
Activity wise i recommend u check out the zoo. Lovely place for a wander.

Ohh yes the Langham buffet is so so divine!
For delicious super cheap food try Camy Shanghai Dumpling House on Tattersalls Lane in the CBD. The wait staff aren't the friendliest but the food is so good, quick and totally worth the slightly crappy service. Before DD my DH and I could eat there complete with drinks for about $25. It's really popular now so it's always packed, but the turnover is fast so you never have to wait long.

Try Cafe le Triskell on Hardware lane (off Little Burke) if you like authentic crepes for breakfast or lunch - $10 a plate and so many options
