Degraves lane for great breakfast places.
Everywhere else I eat at when visiting is pretty budget, I don't think it would be quite what you'd like.
Oh, Hopetoun tea room for amazing cakes and afternoon tea.

Because you'll probably get a table before 7pm if you do. Otherwise could be after 8pm!

We always eat at Gigi japanese noodle bar on swanston street, their menu is HUGE. We can easily get 3 dishes and have change from $30. The food is good, not amazing but its quick and cheap.
There's a greek dessert shop near cnr lonsdale and russell street. We always pop in during the day and buy some dessert to keep in the hotel for late night snacks.
The food court in the QV building is great after 5pm. You can pick up some really cheap sushi and other takeaway food. We often go to the soup shop there for lunch on a cold day.
Can't go wrong with china town eateries either, lots of cheap eats there.
