    I would have said 'should I take your car back to the shop, or would you like to keep it?' And I would take it back if he refused to calm down

    I tend to say, 'im sorry, not that is too expensive, we aren't going to buy that today' and give them a cuddle. If they continue, I honestly just ignore them and let them wander behind me crying, asking intermittently if they want a cuddle/to talk about it calmly

    Definitely the five min warning! I've also found it helps to say "we're leaving but if you're good and don't cry or scream we might come back another day".

    I've had to do the walk of shame through the shops a few times too. I head to the nearest parents room, put him down & say "go ahead & scream all you like. No one in here particularly cares" and then I sit down & pretend to look at my phone. Once he realises he doesn't have an audience he gives up.
