Default Airlie Beach - Climate in December

We have booked at holiday and are heading off to Airlie Beach. We are arriving on the 20th of December and staying for 11 days. We are staying in a cabin at the BIG4 Whitsundsys Adventure Park, but now I'm stressing as a friend said its the wet season and in all honesty I could not think of anything worse than 10 days stuck inside a tiny cabin with the kids. Any feedback on weather conditions would be greatly appreciated 😀

I lived in Mackay for 5 years up about an hour & a bit from airlie until we moved in march this year. Yep it's the wet season. Last Xmas wasn't really bad, year before monsoon like rain for a few days at a time. It's hit & miss. It can rain for weeks at a time, sometimes just showers here & there & it's its really humid as well so you'll be sweating in the pouring rain which is weird to get use too. In my experience jan / feb is worse but it's the tropics & subject to monsoons. Sorry I can't tell you definitely what the weather will do, but you are going in the so called wet season.

Yep, wet season in north Queensland is November to May. So hot and wet.

It will be hot and humid, although Airlie Beach is not as humid as the likes of Cairns. It could go one of three ways over your 11 days I guess....Hot with no rain, Hot and sunny during the day with afternoon/evening thunderstorms, or monsoonal which is steady rain and downpours morning and night and high humidity.

Or if you are very unlucky, a cyclone. Sorry!

I live in Mackay... There is a good chance it will be raining. The temperature will be nice but it is the humidity that will make it unpleasant. If there is a breeze it will make it unbearable. Last year my DH family went camping in camper trailers for the week between Xmas and new year at airlie and it was wet the whole time.
