My almost 7 year old DS has been showing a lot of interest in people kissing, being naked etc. he has been informed by a friend at school that sexing is when you get naked and kiss and rub your willy etc. he says he wants to sex with people as that's what his friend tells him they should do.
I have discussed things with him about what's appropriate and inappropriate and some ideas about how he can handle his friend saying these things. However I am unsure about when I should clarify the meaning of sex. What age would you do this and also any other tips that help me handle this situation?

I would clarify, personally, and I have. DD is 8 this week and she's known about sex for a while now. She knows what happens, and she knows that people do it both for enjoyment and for baby-making.
I figured it was best she got her info from me, correct info, than risk the playground bull she'd otherwise be told. If he's getting told these tales already, I think it's definitely the time to get in there and tell him the actual facts. When deciding to tell DD, I also figured that I could just give her some more clearly defined lines about keeping safe - like sex is for adults only, and if anyone EVER tries to do anything like that with her, then she is to say no, and come and tell me. I also made sure she understand that if it DOES happen, she will NEVER be in trouble for it, and is to come and tell me regardless. I figure if she knows what sex is, then she'll be able to go, "Yep, that's wrong and shouldn't be happening to me," if ever it does.
We already have "only for adults," things - like wine and beer and stuff... so sex was just adding to that list I guess. SHe was fine with it.
I even printed off anatomical diagrams to explain things better... it was very facts based.
I guess it depends what your child can handle, and you will know what that is better than I will.

There is a great book called "Where Did I come from" probably a good time to read that to him, so he gets correct facts.

I like SassyMummy's advice.
But also, I would be concerned about the friend who is saying these things. Do you know his parents well enough to bring it up with them? Or if it's a school friend, maybe talk to the teacher. I'm getting alarm bells here, and I'd want to be sure that the other child wasn't being abused.

Maybe "Where Did I Come From?" I'm not sure if that's what AM meant, but that is one that certainly fits the description.
We had that book when I was a kid. We giggled at the fat naked cartoon people in it.
The follow up is "what's happening to me" and is more about puberty. There's heaps of similar books though.
