Can you smarty pants bubhubbers help me with some links??
I know there's one about processing time & the amount of asylum seekers Australia takes in compared to other countries??
And if you want a clue as to how bigoted these people are? They said (and I quote) 'As long as he doesn't bring in gay marriage I will be happy. If he has I'm gonna assassinate him.' (No, that's not someone born in 1900, he's a 20 something)

I'm arguing with bigots about refugees and asylum seekers

I asked the same question in another forum recently.
I'm subbing for links!
My 'friend' thinks she isn't racist when she says things like "We should help Australians before we help boat people" *sigh*
The frustrating thing is I don't think they will read any links or information..

Australia takes around .23% of the worlds refugees.
This link shows how we do globally compared to other industrialised nations - pretty crap!
Here's the latest on processing time too
There are currently 430 people that have been in detention for over 2 years and the longest serving is over 1100 days - many of these are without any sort of interview or process even started.
By the look of their comments though they may not have a grasp of statistics.

I've been told they are coming here for financial gain and are greedy.

And the thing is that once refugees are processed and able to enter the Australian workforce, they will start paying taxes and supporting the 'Australians' my 'friend' is talking about.
I cannot believe how long it is taking to process refugees.

Thanks crazy that's just the link I need!
I went on my rampage (used the word bigot a lot, lol) and no reply yet.
I'm waiting for the onslaught

I have actually deactivated my Facebook because I am so sick of seeing so many ignorant racist posts pop up in my newsfeed. I get so worked up over it but feel powerless to help.
And now that our own Government is basically "hand balling" it to another country.. I feel like this almost makes some of those feel that their inhumane attitudes are acceptable.

I'm about to do the same CAB, once I announce the pregnancy, I'm leaving Facebook for good, it's causing too much frustration in my life! (And I spend too much time on there)
