Default 7.5 month old vomits when given lumpy food

I really have no idea what I'm doing with this weaning stuff. My DS is 7.5 months old. Solids were introduced at 5.5 months. Other than that he is FF (my milk dried up). I've been pureeing everything and he eats most things, including whole pieces of toast that he feeds to himself, crusts included. Considering that, I thought mince with soup pasta (tiny, tiny pasta) should be easy, but he gagged and vomited every mouthful. Is this normal? Does anyone have any suggestions? How can he be fine with toast but not with mince and soup pasta?

It might be the flavour that he doesn't like rather then the size of the food?

My DS is 8 mths and we are doing BLW (so no purees). He does pretty well with most things but struggles with mince and rice. I think it's so small he has trouble manipulating it around his mouth to swallow. He used to gag and vomit but is slowly getting better and doesnt gag as often now. Maybe your LO is similar and just needs more practice?
