I'm sorry Hoping I really don't agree with this regime. 4 weeks is a long time and you will feel terrible by next week on such few calories. I worry it could mess up your body and metabolism. I went really hard to lose weight once and that was 1000 calories. I got really really cold then went I ate normally (not even bad, just normal), I gained 5kg in a week and it just kept coming after that.

Dr has done a lot of research into it and into PCOS.
I've decided to up it to 800 which is the highest it says on the Opti fast box, for the initial phase.

Even 800 calories a day is too low. I hate to sound like a worry wart but if your doctor has said 450 calories a day for 4 weeks is sufficient he's deluded and giving you unsafe information. Whether you've decided to up it or not, his information is just plain wrong and dangerous. I'd be shocked if you were able to even stay awake until afternoon tea time at that rate. I get sleepy and have to have a nap at 1200 cals a day with limited, easy exercise.

800 calories is better, but frankly still too low. Initial phases of any strict diet are just that. Initial. They're only supposed to last a week at the most in general. So I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion because it sounds like you'll do yourself more harm than good at that rate, especially if you try to stick to such a low amount for 4 weeks.

Could your doctor have meant 450 calories a day PLUS the optifast shakes? That may make more sense. Otherwise I agree with the others- I'm only 58kg and losing weight on 1300 calories a day. If you are larger then more calories than that are needed.
    Good luck with it!

I know this is an old thread. But I have to start a vlcd in a week doing optifast/optislim. It's 2 meal replacement and 1 meal with vegies and protein. There is so much I'll be restricted to. No junk. No pasta/bread/rice/potato/grains. No fruit/sugar. It's pretty much meat/seafood/veg. No dairy too. Only a bit of milk allowed in coffee. It's suposed to put ur body in a state of ketosis whete your body burns down all the carbs in your body then it goes to your fat stores. It's an extreme form of weightloss but it's only short term. I'm doing it for 3 months as I'm extremely overweight. I know it will be hard but I'm desperate. So I'm going to try this first
