As an adopted child in the 70's I had a closed adoption. I was also older, nearly 18mths when it was all finalised. I've known for as long as I can remember, it wasn't confusing, no abandonment issues, just was the way it was. My birth mother came looking when I was 18, I declined. Eventually at about 35 I went and got my records and nothing in there changed my mind. My family now is my family, it's been a tough ride but I wouldn't change it and I don't feel the need to find my birth mother for any reason.

    Default Adoption application in queensland

    Hi Ladies,

Can anyone please share any recent experiences with me about adopting in queensland? Hubby and I have our expression of interest paperwork here about to be posted but I would love to touch base with anyone who has, or is going through the process. I know each and every situation is individual and there is no guarantee or expected timeframe.
We have had quite a unique journey to be here, but we truly believe our experiences make us fantastic candidates for adoption. Can anyone offer us any information? We would love to hear it. Thank you so much

Hi Bezzy I know it has been a few months since you wrote this response but I would love to chat with you about adoption and your experiences if you wouldn't mind. Hubby and I have had some experiences which we have been told by numerous professionals make us fantastic candidates for adoption and fostering. I would love to hear from you. Thank you x

Hello out there. Just giving some hope to any pre adoptive parents out there. We adopted in the NSW Local Adoption Program in 2008 and 2010. We were told it would take 2 to 4 years after we had been approved. The reality was that after we handed in our final paperwork it only took weeks to be placed (both times). Our girls were 4 month and 8 months, in perfect health and from educated, healthy birth parents.

At the time of adoption we agreed to face to face contact, letters etc, but the reality is many birth parents just want to get on with their lives. Only now when my eldest baby is 10 have we had a bit of an email conversation between her and her birth mother. It was lovely actually.

10 years in to local adoption and my girls constantly have questions which we answer and move on. We have recently, very surprisingly given birth after 15 years infertility. The love we have for her is no different in any way to the love we have for our adopted girls. They love their baby sister to the moon and back.

Good luck to anyone embarking on local adoption, it is rare, but it is worth the effort.
