Just a bit of a random question, but I would be keen to hear everyone's opinions on this.
I was out for dinner the other night at the pub with a girlfriend of mine, and we thought we would have a drink or two before dinner, and sat at a back table in the bar room,
there were three really, really drunk guys sitting at the bar, being stupid, then all of a sudden the barmaid is taking money from these guys to slap them in the face.
So one of the three guys paid the barmaid $50 to slap his mate across the face, and she was hitting them pretty hard too.
There were an older couple sitting at the next table and I have to say they were quite horrified, they told us they were skipping dinner and intended to complain. I felt quite sorry for them, they were really lovely people and really were disgusted. The man asked me and my friend if this is how young girls behave these days.
I understand fun and mucking around as much as the next person, and they were silly enough to ask for a slap in the face, and they were silly enough to pay her.... but having worked in pub myself, I can not imagine ever doing this myself, or if I did, I could not imagine getting away with it.
Im not sure on the rules, but is was not a good look seeing her pocket all this money, and it got rather uncomfortable after a while of her slapping them in the face. I am not to sure how management would feel if the older couple did end up complaining.
In the end, we moved to the bistro and had a good time and went home.
Just wanting opinions, as after talking to my friend, she really found it funny and a good laugh, I personally found it a little off

Pretty unprofessional but it's her job at stake & off putting to other customers can't imagine her employers / management would find it too amusing bit of a inappropriate time & place for that kind of joke

Yeah I find that a bit off aswell....not to mention really weird. I couldn't imagine slapping anybody in the face let alone being paid to do so

That is one of the most bizarre things I've ever heard! I think I would have pi$$ed myself laughing!
The barmaid is onto a good thing! Getting out any pent up aggression, and being paid for it

What kind of pub was it OP? I know a few where this wouldn't get a second glance..

I probably would have laughed TBH. Not the type of thing I'd want my girls to witness though, but we've only ever taken them to bistros where the bar isn't in site.

That's awful! I would of reported her to the management. I know they were asking her to do it but even so as a bar tender she would know that they were intoxicated and not making correct decisions. She should of cut them off drinking instead of pocketing a quick buck!!

I know where I have worked Id say it would be pretty safe to assume I would have lost my job...
It was a country town pub, and yes I am well aware of what goes on in these pubs, but this one I didnt expect it as it is more rsl style with a motel and restaurant, and seems to have a bit more class than the other...

DF is a bartender and once got paid $50 if a girl could put it down his pants... But I think if he was to slap anyone, money or not he'd be in serious trouble!
