I am not sure if I am posting this in the right section, but here goes anyway.
My husband and I have just started trying to conceive (well according to him it is not 'trying' it is just not preventing because he doesn't want to stress about it, but anyway) and I have been to my regular GP for a pre conception check up and blood tests etc.
I went to an ultrasound with my sister in law today, who is 35 weeks pregnant, and she told me that it is a good idea to have an obstetrician BEFORE falling pregnant otherwise it can be really hard to get who you want at the right time. My GP didn't mention anything about that to me.
Did anyone do this?
Also, if anyone is around the Sutherland Shire area, can anyone recommend a good one? I think I will probably want to deliver at Kareena Private hospital.
Thanks in advance for any advice

I'm also in the shire. I booked into my OB after our dating scan at about 6 weeks. Didn't have a problem and my first appointment was about 2 weeks later. I booked into Kareena private when I was about 10 weeks from memory.
If you go onto Kareena's website I think they have a list of the OB's that deliver there. You can then contact them regarding fees etc. I went with Dr Simpson as 3 different doctors recommended him.
Hope that helps.

You don't have to find an OB before you fall pregnant.. You normally make an app with them when you're around 6 weeks pregnant. Your first app would normally be around 10-12 weeks. The only time they won't see you is if they're away on holidays or something...

Thanks, that is what I thought too, I would not have even thought to go to an obstetrician until I actually found out that I was pregnant! I am glad to know that others are of he same view and I am not just unprepared.
As I say, my sister in law just mentioned yesterday that a lot of her friends who are now pregnant are having trouble getting who they want and that I should look a few months before trying to fall pregnant (she doesn't know that we are already trying). I think that I would just feel strange booking in with an obstetrician just to say, "I am trying to fall pregnant and wanted to see you in advance" since I have already done all those pre conception things with my GP. The only reason that I would think about seeing one before is if we were having troubles and they could help me with any fertility issues, but so far we have only been 'trying' for two months and don't feel there is any issues yet.
