On the days when you just want to run away, when the kids are fighting, things are tense with DH, and the housework seems insurmountable, what do you do to brighten up the day?
I've tried all my usual things and its just not working. What's your fail safe pick me up?

Having a nice hot shower then blow drying and straightening my hair gets me out of the dumps!

I bake or cook something, the familiar rhythms of all that chopping, stirring, sautéing etc I find quite soothing iykwim, particularly when I am stressed.

Putting on music and dancing with DS1.
Sleeping with DS2 if that's the only way he will have his nap and I'm over it.
A long hot shower followed by some tv and icecream or lollies and chocolate.
Today nothing has worked so far. I just really want 30 minutes to myself to read a magazine and not be responsible for anything else.

Change the scene. Go for a drive, walk, head to a friends house.
Put on a DVD for the kids so I can eat lunch in relative peace.
Cook a healthy hot lunch
Chat to a friend to vent
Take a hot shower
Get stuck into the cleaning

I bake. I made a months worth of Cheese and Bacon loaves (uncut scrolls) today and Apple and Cinnamon muffins, as well as Choc Chip. Baking smells make me happy.
Watching Heathers with Milo on Ice-Cream is also another good one.
