    Default Dangers of new furniture

    Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding new timber furniture. We bought a new timber buffet (Marri) for the dining area a couple of weeks ago. I only just thought about the risk of varnish/lacquer fumes new furniture emits. I don't know what they've used but it is not stained just a clear, shiny finish.

It only ever smelled a bit when standing right in front of it and I cleaned it with furniture polish the day it arrived. Due to the weather we haven't had doors or windows open for a while

Am I just worrying for nothing ?

    Nic

I would say yes, you are worried for nothing
ETA- it's not the same as sniffing an open tin of varnish for an extended period. The smell will dissipate over time, I'm sure it's fine
