I have whole oats with 3 chopped dates. I put the dates in with the water before cooking as then they go nice and soft and their sweetness melts into the oats.
I just bought Organic Rice Malt Syrup yesterday to try in my oats as an alternative (Health food aisle in Coles), no sugar just brown rice, it is still sweet however not as sweet as honey or golden syrup.

My DH bought the flavoured Uncle Toby sachets which the kids love....and no wonder, they are full of sugar. From memory it was 24gms per 100gms .

I usually make plain quick oats and add grated apple or dates or sultanas and always add cinnamon. I also add a teaspoon of maple syrup to mine and stir it through. I do find they cook up better on the stove, but the microwave is so much quicker.

A slurp of pure maple syrup is lovely and is a better sweetener for you than sugar

    very yummy!
The chia seeds are a great idea! I might try that tomorrow. I'm still liking sliced banana despite the horrible indigestion it causes.
