My dad walked into birth suite an hour after DD1 was born saying "haven't you had that baby yet!?" I lifted the blanket showed him his granddaughter he gave us both a kiss and said he'd wait in the waiting room until I was on the ward.

After dad everyone else just showed up. They didn't leave until 7pm! (DD1 was born at lunch after 19 hours of labor) but I didn't mind cos then everyone had met her and left us alone for the first week

My family all turned up at the hospital about half hour after ds1 was born. They were so excited. They didn't tread on our toes though, they came in said congrats and left again. He was skin to skin on my chest and i was in bed (hadnt showered or even moved yet) I was happy with that no one even touched him.

I wanted everyone to visit, I love visitors. I found when I came home after the birth centre people were more hesitant to visit than in the hospital. I love showing off my babies.

It's up to you want you want and don't want. If you're not comfortable having visitors for a few days, politely let people know. Or maybe just don't announce bub's arrival until you're actually ready for visitors.
