just curious...was out recently and someone mentioned that they are living below the 'poverty line'...their income was approx 100k gross, they got about 200 a fortnight on family tax, have 2 properties, one pays the mortgage for itself in rental so its an investment property, the other is a smallish mortgage.....is this really poverty? I kinda didn't know what to say, the person seemed upset by thier situation....but it got me thinking....is this actually 'poverty'?

That's not poverty. That's hyperbole.

Ummm that's ridiculous. We live on half of that and don't own any properties and I consider us to be quite well off!

They have 2 properties and still manage to receive $200 in government benefits a fortnight?
Boo hoo, break out the violins
Sounds like they are doing pretty well to me.

Poverty?!? How ridiculous. I'm getting 780/fn and pay 600 out in rent. I consider my situation poverty.

That person needs to go spend time with a single mum on single parent pension, or a student not living at home... Or use some her her large income and go visit Cambodia that would be a nice reality slap to the face check she obviously needs.
Far out... Dh and i combined are on $41,000 BEFORE tax and i dont consider us on the poverty line. We dont own our own home either

Ridiculous. Some people have no idea. So they have two houses?? What about the people who have none?
