Default Pain relief after adult tonsillectomy...

What were u prescribed & did it help??

I was prescribed 20ml of pain stop night every 4 hrs (it is 480mg paracetamol & 20mg codeine & 24mg promethezene sp)

This has not been covering the pain.

So I went to the dr yesterday ( day 4 post surgery) & he prescribed a combo of endone - twice daily & panadiene forte 2 tabs 3 x per day.

I've never had endone & my understanding is its pretty strong. I am hesitant to take it.

My pharmacist told me I can have a maximum of 2 panadiene forte every 6hrs.

My biggest issue is the referred ear pain & jaw pain. My throat hurts but no worse than the worst tonsillitis I've endured.

I've worked out I can't go 6hrly, it's too long but I'm going to try & have 1 panadiene forte every 3hrs so I still don't exceed the maximum dosage daily. And use heat packs.

Basically after this long rant I want to know what other people had & how long did people's ear/jaw pain last. I am day 5 post surgery today.

I didn't have them out as an adult but I was 13 and my younger sister was 14 (2 years ago) when she had them out.

Anyway... we only had pain stop for the first 2 days.
I hope someone on here can be more helpful but the pain you are going through after 5 days doesn't sound right to me! I honestly don't remember either of us having the ear and neck pain you describe.

Hope you feel better soon xo

I had mine out at 17, was only prescribed panadeine forte for pain, and honestly it didn't do much. I can't remember exactly where my pain was but it was agony..
If I were you I'd definitely take the endone, it is really strong but obviously you need it, I've only ever had endone after my Caesars and it worked really well. Watch out for constipation though!
Hope u feel better soon xo

Take the endone! I had it when I had mine out and it was the only drug that worked.

I highly recommend the Endone for severe pain. It will give you some relief for a few hours so you can rest and heal. If you only take one at bed time and once during the day for a week you won't end up like one of the people on Dr Phil.

I was prescribed Endone too. Had to get a repeat after the first week. Take it. It helps. You can stagger Panadeine forte, or Panadol between doses of Endone or try nurofen between the Endone.

^^^ It thins the blood and can make the wounds bleed.
