    Default FBC at Mercy Heidelberg

Hi ladies, this is my first post here, so hello to you all

I'm currently TTC but thinking ahead to hospitals as I know they get booked up super quick at the moment, so I pretty much want to decide where to go before I go for that first GP appointment.

The Family Birth Centre at Mercy Heidelberg is sounding really great - ideally I'd want a midwife-led environment, and as natural a birth as possible. Feels kinda crazy thinking about it now, though! I'm in Brunswick so RWH is closer, but from what I've heard I don't think I would want to go there. I do have private health cover, but the more I look into it, the more I think it's better to go public.

Is anyone able to give advice as to how early one needs to book in with the FBC at the Mercy? Should I ring them as soon as I get my BFP? Should I do a tour first? And any experiences using a doula/birth attendant there as well?

    Many thanks ladies! xo

Do you know which public hospital catchment area you live in? The Mercy may not be able to take you if you live outside their catchment area, but the earlier you book the better, they may still have room earlier on. Good luck :-)

I went through the Mercy FBC and they were great
There is no catchment for the FBC; it is first come first served. The catchment applies to the standard birth suites but if you have to transfer out of the FBC to the birth suites due to complications etc you can. The FBC books up quickly though. I booked at 5 weeks and then you go in for a tour/info session and confirm your booking after 12 weeks. HTH

Yep for fbc there is no catchment area just depends on how many they take in in your due month .

Get in quick seems to be the consensus. I hope you get in *fingers crossed*
I would have lived the FBC but I am too high risk :-(

Thanks so much for your advice, ladies! Seems like its best to book in early - makes me feel not quite so silly to do the research now 😃

Nah it's not silly. I know of a lady who was desperately ttc and had done heaps of rounds of ivf and even went on a hospital tour and wasn't even pregnant!!

Np. It is good to be prepared. I didn't need to do any research cause there was no way I'd be allowed to birth at fbc (they onky take you up to a certain weight)
