    Hi bub4mepls,

Hubby is doing vehicle mechanics course as he is corps transferring from infantry after a trip O/S. We have been here since Aug 2011, I am in much need of getting back to Qld that is for sure.

I assume the apartment you are looking at is upstairs and down? That is the only issue I can see is stairs. There is enough playgrounds and parks in T'ville for bub to play once old enough to do so, so I don't think outdoor area will be a big issue. Less for hubby to mow anyway!

Always a tough decision but most likely only going to be for a couple of years anyway.

I am hoping to get some news on a posting order next week, if not, hubby says that he is sending us up there at the end of May so that I can get booked into the hospital etc. I am already 21 wks, so it is getting on a bit to be booking in! We will be staying with the in-laws out at Saunders Beach till a house comes up and the move actually happens! Hopefully hubby won't be too far behind us but he reckons it could be as long as till July. Argh, I hate all this unknowing.

I think I know the apartment block in Rosslea...is it on Bowen Road? It is a very large complex there and on a main road, although I have never been inside. If it is Kalynda Chase, that would probably be my preference of the two. We very nearly bought in Kalynda Chase but the covenant was super strict (and slightly strange) and pricing was high for what you got, so we looked closer to the city. It is a very new estate and has nice parks and a good feel (although smaller blocks and streets than some other suburbs, but normal for a new development). It is further out to some things (like the restaurant strip in Palmer Street and the Strand) but there are some restaurants near Reading Cinema and the area around Willows Shopping Centre (as well as obviously inside the shopping centre) has lots of fast food places and shops. Bohle Plains covers a large area though, including Rangewood, so just make sure that it is Kalynda Chase (although I personally do like Rangewood too, but it is much further out, I used to live there and it can be a bit of a pain to drive 10 min on the highway to just get something from the shops).

With the exceptions of the outer suburbs like Kelso, Rangewood, Rupertswood, Alligator Creek and maybe Stuart, most stuff in Townsville should only take you 20-30 minutes max to drive from one end to the other (it used to take me just over 30 to drive from Rangewood to the city for work). Traffic is really not an issue ever with just a few minor hot spots at peak hour, but you will never actually be stopped in traffic like in other cities.

I hope they hurry up with your posting order redgrave! its good you have family to stay with in the mean time, still, you are probably just wanting it to hurry up so you can settle in and get ready for Bubs arrival!
I have booked in with an OB called Dr Renee (forget her last name), she is also a Fertility specialist so I think she will be good given my history. She delivers at the Mater priavte.

The house at bohle plains is gone now so looks like we missed out on that one...of well.
Kimberline you are right the apartments are on Bowen road, they kind of have a resort type style. Is rosslea a bad area?

Bowen road is fairly busy - lots of shady 'by the hour' looking motels. That said, it's not necessarily a bad area - just high traffic. Would depend where the unit was situated in the complex

The units look nice from the outside, but I have never been inside the complex. Quite a lot of families live there when they first move to Townsville (before buying) - I work at a school in enrolments. Rosslea is not a bad area, just that Bowen Road is quite a busy road and would also receive some foot traffic out the front too. It might be a good first step and then see where you might like to move to once you get here.

Hey ladies! So have finally made the big move to townsville, been here almost two weeks and moved into our apartment on Wednesday (we chose the riverview apartments, they are lovely and secure so happy with our choice)

I just have a quick question about the weather, does it get cold here?! And if so, when? Lol
What is the average temperature for winter during the day? I have noticed all the shops have winter clothes out but it isn't cold at all! Maybe a little cool first thing in the morning.

Everyone back hone in brissie is apparently freezing their butts off lol

It only gets cold in the morning and evenings. I probably only wear a jumper the whole day maybe 3 or 4 times a year and I feel the cold. Hubby never wears a jumper at all.

We moved here in October last year and my kidlets lived in singlets and shorts. It's was a big adjustment for all of us except DH (born and lived here til late teens) we felt the heat/humidity and sweated out butts off.
