    Default False vs real labour?!

I'm 36 weeks & 2 days with my first bubba, and today I am starting to doubt whether I'm having false or real labour pains!! I've had braxton hicks tightenings before but usually if I lie down & relax for a while they go away. Now my whole belly is going rock hard and quite painful for about a minute at a time quite frequently, and lying down / relaxing does nothing to help. I've also been getting sharp stabbing pains downstairs.
I haven't done this before so don't know how to tell what's going on.... Any ideas?
