    Default Leaving Australia

DH rang centrelink this morning because we received a email regarding our daughter having left Australia and not yet returning and NOT being eligible for full Family tax A and B and that we had to contact them ....

DD is 10 and she left with us and returned with us for a 9 day holiday to Fiji .....about 2/3 weeks ago.....

Now I thought that if you where going overseas for an extended period then you had to notify them but not for a ****ing 9 day holiday gees talk about big brother is watching you.....

We are going to US in August I guess I will have to sit on the phone for 2 hours to tell them that we will be away for 2 weeks .....

When you go in and out of Australia you fill out outgoing/ incoming passenger cards, maybe they monitor this? Maybe they misplaced her incoming passenger card once you handed it in or something? I would give them a call to sort it out. Worst case scenario they will need some sort of proof that she returned at the end of the holiday, possibly a plane ticket or something. You are allowed to leave the country for a period of either 6 or 8 weeks ( I can't remember which one) before it affects your payments so a 2 week holiday to the us is fine.

Yep from what we can work out they know when you leave Australia ....and the letter was just a random thing telling us that they know and the we should have told them and she also said that we have to tell them when we come back into the country also ....
So this is just the one chick that DH spoke to so not sure if she is 100% right we have been given so much conflicting advice over the year from people that work at CL , we will have to look into it more.....
So when we go to the US in August we have to tell them and then again when we get back ....

Very bizzare, specially for a holiday, as someone else mentioned if youre going for more than 3 months or so yeah fair enough, but a couple of weeks, crazy!

I think it is also possible that while you are out of the country you are ineligible for any payments. So basically you don't get money for the time you are out of the country. Correct me of I'm wrong, i apologise if I am.

My pensioner in-laws have to do the same thing. CL want to know what you eat, breathe and poo!

When we were trying to get off payments, sounds weird, but they made it that hard to stop getting payments!! Why not just please don't pay me anymore? We had to report income for ages before they would cut us off.
