We were on losec from 3 months. I can't help you with any earlier, but I would have done anything to help him!

It seems maybe my GP was a bit quick to jump to the conclusion that bubs has reflux! Maternal health nurse came out this afternoon and said that it would be unlikely that he has reflux. She reckons that he is a bit of a gutso and eats more than what his stomach can take!! He has put on in 8 days what weight gain they look for in 2 weeks so she said that in her opinion she wouldn't give him medication just yet. She was explaining that everything with bubs is immature including stomach and valve at the back of throat so they don't have much control at this stage.

She also said that baby should be able to stay up for 45 mins to an hour and in that time you should fit feeding nappy change burping and settling back to sleep! This so does not happen so I need to be more efficient with my feeding I think and keep him awake!

Again he is unsettled and was pretty much awake from 5 until 8 went down for 45 mins then awoke I fed for 10 mins and now he's asleep on my chest!

It's certainly frustrating but I think more for me wanting to make sure that he is ok which I know he is he just seems to be great for the most part of the day and then unsettled all night

The shield doesn't go as far as the natural breast (which is why we are using them - easier to drink!) so without it she can't cope (same with the bottle).
Haven't read any replies but, the shield actually controls the flow of your milk, so the gagging (which is a good thing as it means her gag reflex is working) is from too much flow all of a sudden. So lean back and don't give up! Took me a while

    Thanks Nala...I hope so too.

Ivy seems quite unsettled, I am about to try and get an hour or 2 before she wakes...although it could be 10 minutes, sounds like she is struggling with wind.

SL that was interesting info on their stomachs etc, thanks for sharing.

Sl, is the immature muscle that causes the reflux. Eliana has been ob 1ml zantac twice a day since she was 6 weeks old. She had silent reflux, the zantac made her throw up heaps but it didn't hurt her anymore. It now looks like the zantac is losing its effectiveness so might have to change to losec.

Beta: grab some lecithin capsules from the chemist our health food shop, take 2 twice daily to help with boob lumps, it helps the fat break down, helps me heaps.

Nic, can't remember if you are bf or ff but grab some inner health plus capsules so you don't get thrush from the anti biotics.

With the night and day thing, we woke 3 hourly in the day (but had to because she was so little anyway) and let her go at night. I also only put her in her cot at night, during the day put her in her pram, bouncer, swing, floor mat wherever.
