Default Door knockers with free powerboards

I just had 2 guys knock on my door offering a free energy saving powerboard, apparently some government initiative. They didn't show any ID although he had something around his neck.

The thing is, he wanted to come inside to install it. No way was I letting a strange guy twice my size come into my house!! He saw I hesitated and said he didn't have to come in, but I could install it (plug the TV in), and take photos for him. I said I had to get my son down for a nap, so he said I could just have it, but then wanted me to bring him my laptop cord or kettle base so he could plug it in for a photo. This sounded better, but I just had an off vibe, and honestly I didn't want to turn my back on them to go into the kitchen (he's partner was holding the door open by then so I couldn't just shut it). Anyway i said no and after trying to change my mind, eventually he finally left.

So..... Have I been watching too much TV or does this sound dodgy?

Not dodgy. It;s a new government initiative. We just got one for our tv. It did feel weird letting him in though - I had my ph in my hand with the HELP ME app ready to go lol.

Sounds a little weird but there is a government power saving thing going at the moment. We got a letter about it. You can book an appointment to have someone come make your place more energy efficient.

However it could be someone seeing those letters and taking advantage of that.

It's part of the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target scheme. To install anything in your home, they should be accredited under the scheme.

Before they install anything, ask to see their accreditation, or you can check them out on the participant register found at www.veet.vic.gov.au

Not dodgy, but if I was home alone with bubs I would not let them in either!! Surely they can understand people's reluctance!

I would have done the same thing unless DH was home. Better to be safe.
