Default Weight or age?? How much????

My 5 week old is exclusively formula fed. I vaguely remember something about the amount they need being based on their weight...there was a calculation I saw somewhere... Anyway we have been going by the guide on the tin which is by age and our boy seems to want a lot more. He has been a large baby since birth 9lb13 so I was wondering maybe it's normal for him to have more??? My first was exclusively breastfed for 13 months so this formula stuff is all new to me.... Any advice would be great... We go by his hungry signs as to when we feed him.... And sometimes he finishes a bottle sometimes he doesn't.

I demand FF. DD had way more, but I've only recently got DS (10mo) to take 180ml. There's a calculation that goes on babies' weight, but I don't know what it is off the top of my head. Good luck

I demand mix feed (majority bottle) but I just make what the tin says, and if he still wanted more after he'd finished the bottle then I just made another 60ml's. He's never had a problem with being overfed as he'll refuse the bottle and push it out with his tongue when he's had enough, is the perfect weight for his height, gaining a good amount, etc so I don't worry about whether he's having 'too much' according to the tin! Sometimes he'll have less than a full bottle, sometimes the whole thing and sometimes more!

    The calculation is
150ml per kilo per day divided into the number of feeds
Obviously only a rough guide though!

Default Weight or age?? How much????

With my first I went by age and it was fine, my second was a big bub and seemed to always be hungry, a midwife explained that for big bubs this often does not work and we did it by weight, from memory it's as a pp stated. The maternity ward usually has a little chart to follow.
